This week two of my favorite commentators wrote articles related to the breakup of the United States and to the inevitability of the disassociation and division of what I call the “Evil Empire” into smaller, local and freer units.
The insightful old Marine, Fred Reed, noted that the
great divisions in the country were manifested by the most recent presidential
election, though they were not created by it.
Trump
did not cause the deep division in the country. It caused him. There are two
very different Americas. . . . The two countries have little in common and do
not belong on the same geography. . . . Whether Trump proves to be the
catastrophic buffoon he apparently aspires to be, the current protests
illuminate a stark difference . . . The chasm is far deeper than just
politics, embracing culture, taste, manners and morals. The groups are
distinct and incompatible. . . . Different peoples. . . . Different
civilizations. Virtually no overlap. . . . The divide is far deeper and more
general than the heat of the election. Again, two countries.

Countries” here: https://www.unz.com/freed/internal-secession-and-the-road-to-ruin-two-countries/ )
The brilliant economist, author and editor Lew Rockwell, Jr. wrote
an article calling for the breakup of the USA.
. . . Everyone takes for granted
that it’s normal for a country of 320 million to be dictated to by a single
central authority. . . . what if we simply abandoned this quixotic mission, and
went our separate ways?
. . . All it took was the election of Donald
Trump for the alleged toxicity of secession to vanish entirely. The left’s
principled opposition to secession and devotion to the holy Union went promptly
out the window.
. . . Each side pours tremendous
resources into trying to take control of the federal apparatus and lord it over
the whole country. . . . How about we call it quits? . . . No more federal
fiefdoms, no more forcing 320 million people into a single mold, no more
dictating to everyone from the central state.
F. A. Hayek once said that in the
future liberty was more likely to flourish in small states. This is surely the
way forward for us today.
The regular folks have reached
the limits of their toleration of leftist intimidation and thought control, and
are hitting back. We can fight it out, or we can go our separate ways.

We need to recognize that what may be loosely
identified as the progressives and the traditionalist are two separate and
incompatible entities. The sooner we separate from one another the better. The
longer this struggle for domination over the entire country continues between
these two antagonist world views -- the more likely we are to come to blood in
the streets and possible to a tyrannical dictatorship. The time for political
separation has come. The alternative is frightful.
Quoting once again from Mr. Rockwell:
Whatever the case may be, what we
can and should do is encourage all decentralization and secession talk, such
that these heretofore forbidden options become live once again.
And that is exactly what I intend to do.

The time to unite is now. There's no accountability for those in federal office. Some Democrats, Progressives, Libertarians, and Independents voted for Donald Trump because the opposition was Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump lives up to his campaign promises, but he also takes the establishment a bit further. Instead of mostly millionaires in his cabinet, it's now mostly billionaires. Instead of decreasing military spending and military presence, he's increasing it. Anti-imperialist agenda? Nope. Pro-imperialist agenda. Libertarians and Republicans have less in common than Democrats and Progressives do. Libertarians and Progressives advocate strength in local policy and having authority to make federal representatives accountable. Independents are more in tune to that ideal, rather than our current oligarchical one, otherwise they would have registered as Democrats or Republicans. Libertarians and other 3rd parties, along with Independents account for at least 60% of the voting population. We need to let that sink in. 60%!!!
ReplyDeleteAs an Independent, I have stronger Progressive and Libertarian views than Democrat or Republican ones. I've been making the case for Progressives to leave the Democratic party. I'm making the case now for Libertarians to leave the Republican party. The Progressives believe in the Democratic process. Do the Democrats? No, they do not. You can see it with the DNC Chair voting process, and their Super-delegate system. That's an easy one. Now, it's to make the case for if you truly believe in Libertarianism and an anti-imperialist agenda, then why take sides with the Republicans?
Ebon, I appreciate your thoughts. While I long ago separated from the Republicans, I just don't see how I could ever "unite" with the so-called "progressives." Democracy is nothing more than the tyranny of majority, that's what has gotten us in the mess we are in. I just want to be left alone to live as I see fit.
ReplyDeleteSo, I repeat: "It's time to go our separate ways."
The old expression: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" seldom holds true. The enemy of my enemy is all too often my enemy as well.
Ron Paul was the Bernie Sanders of the Republican Primary in 2012. No one seems to remember that. People need to understand that the Progressives and the Libertarians are on the same side. One advocates local grassroots communities, the other advocates strength in local government. Progressives are no more Democrats than Libertarians are Republicans. They both don't want this war-mongering imperialism fed by media propaganda that all started back in 1898 with Theodore Roosevelt, Henry Cabot Lodge, and William Randolph Hearst. Hell, I'm pretty sure Theodore Roosevelt planned the assassination on then President William McKinley. Anyways, off topic.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I wish you well Greg. Hope to see you after the empire falls.
Ebon, as I've noted before, there may be some overlap on some issues between libertarians and progressives, but progressives are believers in BIG GOVERNMENT, something paleo-conservatives and libertarians loathe. . . . And you do know that Teddy was a "progressive", right?
