Hard to Imagine

It’s one of those little things that stay in your memory from many years ago.

I can still vividly remember talking with my teammates at the end of practice for our Pioneer League Baseball team; as I recall, we were the “Florida Crackers.” I must have been about 8 years old. For some reason, we were discussing the turn of the century and wondering if we would live to see it. After all, most of us would be 50 years old, or older in the year 2000. For an eight year old, it’s hard to imagine living to be 50!

There were certainly other things that we never could have imagined, not in our wildest dreams:
  • A President of the United States who was raised in foreign countries and brought up as a Muslim.
  • Sodomite marriages between two men or two women.
  • Women in the combat arms of the US military.
  • Public school class days that started without prayer and Bible reading.
  • The bulk of the country living on the public dole.
  • Legalized murder of unborn children in the womb (I’m not sure that we would even have known what the word abortion meant.)
  • That television would become the moral cesspool that it is today.
  • Government officials, whether sodomite mayors or the IRS, attempting to influence what is proclaimed from Christian pulpits.
  • Having to get the government’s permission to purchase a firearm.
  • The denigration of all things Southern or Confederate. After all, the high school we would eventually attend were the South Dade "Rebels" and venerated all things Confederate, from the band uniforms to the Battle Flags and Dixie was played at all the football games.
I could go on. I’ve certainly failed to mention many things that come to my mind and to yours, but I think you get my point.

Well, obviously I lived to the turn of the century . . . and beyond . . .

But I have to admit that for many years now . . . dating back to at least the turn of this century . . . I’ve been saying to my wife: “I’ve lived way too long.” Usually five minutes of the evening news is enough to elicit that remark from me.

I don’t think that I understand this world that I live in any longer and I haven’t for some time now.

I don’t really expect to see things get any better -- not until my Lord returns. However, I shall, by the Grace of God,  continue to speak the truth, to resist tyranny and hope against hope that my grandchildren might someday know something of the world that I knew in the 50’s and early 60's.

By His Grace, I continue on, knowing that, all appearances to the contrary -- “ . . . all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28)

My ramblings brought to mind a passage that I found somewhat haunting in William Manchester's, Goodbye, Darkness: A Memoir of the Pacific War, which I read many years ago. Manchester was a Marine in the Pacific during World War II. I don't know that Manchester made a claim to any sort of Christianity, but his comments as to what they were fighting for and what they assumed to be true still resonate:
. . . You assumed that if you came through this ordeal, you would age with dignity, respected as well as adored by your children. Wickedness was attributed to flaws in individual characters, not to society's shortcomings. To accept unemployment compensation, had it existed, would have been considered humiliating. So would committing a senile aunt to a state mental hospital. Instead, she was kept in the back bedroom, still a member of the family.

Debt was ignoble. Courage was a virtue. Mothers were beloved, fathers obeyed. Marriage was a sacrament. Divorce was disgraceful. Pregnancy meant expulsion from school or dismissal from a job. The boys responsible for the crimes of impregnation had to marry the girls. Couples did not keep house before they were married and there could be no wedding until the girl's father had approved. You assumed that gentlemen always stood and removed their hats when a woman entered a room. The suggestion that some of them might resent being called "ladies" would have confounded you. You needed a precise relationship between the sexes, so that no one questioned the duty of boys to cross the seas and fight while girls wrote them cheerful letters from home, girls you knew were still pure because they had let you touch them here but not there, explaining that they were saving themselves for marriage. All these and "God Bless America" and Christmas or Hanukkah and the certitude that victory in the war would assure their continuance into perpetuity - all this led you into battle, and sustained you as you fought, and comforted you if you fell, and, if it came to that, justified your death to all who loved you as you had loved them. Later the rules would change. But we didn't know that then. We didn't know.

The Assault on Christians Continues

The assault on Christian culture and Christians themselves continues to advance at a rapid rate.

Last week it was pastors in Houston being ordered to turn over their sermon notes and private communications with their congregations for review by the city’s sodomite mayor.

This week it is a couple in Idaho being ordered to perform sodomite weddings at their wedding chapel or face fines and/or jail. CLICK HERE for more information.

Idaho and Texas may have been the last places we expected such actions to take place, but the common thread is that these incidents occurred in large cities (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho may not seem a large city by some standards, but it is the 7th largest city in Idaho at over 46,000 inhabitants.)

Large cities are a scourge to liberty, whether they be in the North, the South, the East, or the West.

As noted by Thomas Jefferson in 1787: "When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe."  (At the time Jefferson made that statement, New York was the largest city in the U.S. and had a population of under 34,000.)

A return to a more Christian and a more agrarian lifestyle is the only hope that we have to pass on a heritage of liberty to our children and grandchildren.

If you have never read I’ll Take My Stand, a collection of essays by twelve Southern Agrarians, first published in 1930, some of you may find it very interesting. I would warn you against the introductions in the reprint editions by Louis Rubin or Susan V. Donaldson (which is particularly bad). They are best ignored.

Sorry, that’s about all the rant I can manage for this week.

The Classrooms of My Youth . . .

This is a photo of a Florida classroom in 1957.

This is what Florida’s schools were like before the complete federalization of the Southern classroom, before court orders and forced integration, when each county actually managed their own school systems. This is how I remember elementary school in the Florida of my youth. Children learned in an environment that reinforced their common culture, their common history and their common values. We began each morning with the Lord’s Prayer and a reading from the Bible.

Later I attended South Dade High School, home of the “Rebels.” Our chief emblem was the Confederate Battle Flag, our band wore Confederate uniforms and Dixie was played at every sporting event, as attendees would come to their feet with rousing cheers.

Now, of course, they are known as the South Dade “Buccaneers.”

A quick glance at the 1957 photo and you know you are in Dixie, that you in Florida. I don’t even see evidence of a yankee striped rag in the classroom. Now it would be difficult to distinguish a Florida school from one in Detroit, or Philadelphia, or New York. And some folks actually wonder why I want to secede from the stinkin' yankee union!

Pastors Ordered to Turn Over Sermons to the Government . . . in Houston, Texas!

The City of Houston is subpoenaing the sermons of a group of pastors who are actively opposing non-discrimination homosexual preference laws being advanced by the city’s sodomite mayor.

Most of the pastors have indicated that they will not comply. Those who fail to comply will face contempt charges.

My sermons are online for anyone to listen to. However, I will not comply with any government edict to turn them over for review or approval.

The persecution of Christians is already well underway in the country. We can only expect that it will intensify.

Keep prayed up and determine, by the Grace of God, to stand and resist the tyranny.

Join the US Military . . . Go to Africa . . . Fight Ebola

President Obama is in the process of sending at least 4,000 US military men and women to Africa to fight Ebola.

Amongst those sent are US Marines and 101st Airborne Army soldiers.

The 101st Airborne’s web page sets forth their mission as follows:

“The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) provides our Nation an unmatched expeditionary Air Assault capability to conduct forcible entry and other worldwide unified land operations in support of combatant commanders.”

I’m trying very hard to understand exactly how going to Africa to fight Ebola fits into that mission.

It has long been the creed of the Marine Corps that every Marine is a rifleman.

According to FMFM 6-4, the mission of the Marine rifle company and platoon is as follows:

“The primary mission of the Marine rifle company and platoon is to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver or to repel his assault by fire and close combat.”

How any of that fits into going to Africa to fight Ebola, I just can’t figure out!

As if fighting in the Empire’s illegal, immoral and unconstitutional wars was not enough.

Here is yet another reason that young Christians and Southerners ought not to serve in the Amerikan military under any circumstances.

Even all the mindless flag-wavers out there should recognize this latest Obama decree as an absolutely unconstitutional misuse of the much overused military.

"All-American" teen attempts to join ISIS

I am so confused.

Maybe someone can help me.

I read the headlines:

- FBI arrests U.S. teen accused of trying to go overseas to join ISIS

- American student, 19, 'trying to join ISIS' arrested at Chicago's O'Hare airport after leaving note for his parents signed 'PLEASE MAKE SURE NOT TO TELL THE AUTHORITIES'

So, I’m thinking . . . “U.S. teen” . . . “American student” . . . Is this really possible?
Has Wally Cleaver perhaps, went over to the dark side?

Darker even than Eddie Haskell?

But then I saw the name and the photo of the “American teen”

Mohammed Hamzah Khan

It wasn't Wally after all.

Wow! I guess “American teens” aren't quite like I remembered them being. (Of course, I attended high school in the 60's)

Turns out Mohammed is a graduate of the Furqaan Academy, an Islamic school across the street from his house.

No, No, not like that, like this . . .

You know, a typical suburban American school.

Evidently Mohammed’s parents were at his arraignment.

No, not that, this . . .

I’m just so confused.
How could this All-American family produce a son who would attempt to join a radical Islamist organization?

All I can say is that I sure hope that the Beav hasn’t been radicalized.

So . . . is it great to be an American or what??

Problem is, I’m not sure that I know what it means to be an American anymore.

I used to think I knew, but if Mohammed Hamzah Khan is an all-American teen . . . I guess I just don’t know anymore.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And on a somewhat related note, please consider the new Assistant Director for US Citizenship and Immigration:

Fatima Noor

But, what should we expect from a President of the US who is named Barak Hussein Obama?

For many years now I've been telling my wife: "I think I've lived way too long."

You know you just couldn't have made this stuff up . . . no one would have believed you even thirty years ago.
