I’m going to make my blog this week a bit more personal than usual. I recently marked my 76th birthday, and I want to thank my Sovereign Lord for the blessings He has poured out upon me, though it would be impossible to recount them all.
First of all, I’m thankful that He chose me in Christ, before the foundation of the world, through no merit of my own, but simply because it pleased him. “Salvation is of the Lord.”
I’m thankful that He ordained that I should be born a Southerner with many Confederate ancestors.
I’m thankful for the health that He has been pleased to blessed me with.
I’m thankful for the family He has given me, a devoted wife, three daughters, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren (one of which is yet on the way).
These things and more were celebrated in a thoroughly Southern style these past several days.
My daughters gifted me a beautiful portrait of General Robert E. Lee, painted by a local artist, which will soon be mounted in a prominent place.
And to top it off, my wife made an old-fashioned Florida Cracker style key lime pie in lieu of a birthday cake. It was a key lime pie like I enjoyed in my youth as often prepared by my grandma and mom in the 50s and 60s. No yankee graham cracker crust, certainly no green food coloring, etc. Pure Cracker and Pure Conch.
So, by the grace of God, we intend to press on, until he calls us home!
