God Is Still on His Throne

The Psalmist poses the following question:

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? -- Psalm 11:3

On the face of it, it is a rather bleak appraisal of the situation that the righteous face. It might well remind you of the time in which we live. It might well lead to depressed resignation or despair. However, if that passage is viewed in its entirety, we see the broader and true meaning.

Psalm11:1-7 In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

God is still on His throne. He is working His perfect will in ALL THINGS. He will most certainly balance the books. As an old Baptist preacher, R. G. Lee, preached on many occasions: "Pay Day, Someday." In fact in that sermon he related the history of wicked Ahab and his even more wicked wife, Jezebel. You cannot help but see the parallel between that wicked couple and the wicked team that would rule over us from the District of Corruption today.

Well, pay day came for Ahab (who died in battle from a "random" arrow) and Jezebel (who was thrown from a window and eaten of dogs) and it will come for the wicked rulers in DC and all of their minions as well. Yes, you can trust God to balance the books, if not in this life, certainly in the one to come.

Our God is working in ALL THINGS for the good of his chosen people.

Romans 8:28-31 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Yes, God raised up the wicked Pharaoh and He also raised up the wicked Obama (and his many predecessors, both Republican and Democrat). And through them He has and WILL show His power and declare His name throughout all the earth.

Romans 9:15-18 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Do not despair, our God still reigns.

Psalm 37:1-3 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Well, I did not intend to sit down and preach this morning, but it seems to be exactly what I did! And I don't reckon that I will apologize for it!

Deo Vindice!

TRUST GOD!

STAY IN THE FIGHT!

NEVER GIVE UP!

NEVER QUIT!
