A Piece of Paper Cannot Protect Your Rights!

In the wake of the murders perpetrated by a Saudi Arabian aviation student at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, many have called for even more government control of who can purchase a firearm.

Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, should know better. He claims that the firearm used in the murders was purchased through a “loophole” in Federal law and he wants more stringent Federal regulations and controls.

DeSantis shows his extreme ignorance of both God-given rights and of the Constitution by saying: "I’m a big supporter of the Second Amendment, but the Second Amendment applies so that we, the American people, can keep and bear arms . . . It does not apply to Saudi Arabians."

I’m not sure if DeSantis is being disingenuous or if he is really that stupid. The right to keep and to bear arms is a pre-existing, God-given right. It is a right that belongs to every man. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with the granting of that right.

Read the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment grants NO rights, it recognizes rights that already exist. The amendment is an attempt to protect those rights from encroachment by the American government. It really cannot honestly and intelligently be understood in any other way.

Governor DeSantis is a graduate of the Harvard Law School and yet hasn’t a clue as to the meaning of the Constitution or of the Bill of Rights. He is not to be trusted, particularly when he pleads for even more infringements upon your God-given rights.

Governments have no legitimate part in any transaction involving the sale and purchase of firearms (or any other property or commodity for that matter). Anyone should be able to walk into a department store or a hardware store, and buy any firearm weapon with no paperwork and with no questions being asked. It’s called “freedom,” folks.

On the other hand, control of the borders is a legitimate responsibility of government. The blame for the Pensacola shooting falls at the feet of the government that not only allowed a national from a foreign government to be in this country, but actually welcomed him as a student, training him to fly a military aircraft.

Yes, I know that Saudi Arabia is supposed to be an ally. I also know that 15 of the 19 men involved in the 9/11 murders were Saudi nationals. And I know that this latest Saudi killer made posts to his Twitter account specifically citing U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East as the reason for his attack.

No, it is never the fault of an inanimate gun. It is the fault of the individual who pulls the trigger. And in this case, it is also the fault of the government that invited this murderer to our soil and incited his hatred by involving the U.S. in affairs that are none of its business.

One final thought. It is almost beyond comprehension that this same Amerikan government, that hires the military to be its armed strongmen abroad, does not allow them to be armed and prepared to defend themselves within the confines of an Amerikan military base. Does anyone remember Fort Hood and the slaughter of unarmed servicemen that took place there over ten years ago? Has the military learned nothing? Does it ever learn anything?

So once again I return to my frequent refrain: “Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be Imperial Storm Troopers!”
