This week’s blog is a bit more personal than usual. Personal --
and I hope helpful and practical.
This past week my wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding
anniversary, as we gathered together with our three daughters, seven
grandchildren, and their spouses.
Those 50 years were a gift from our heavenly Father, and it was His
grace that made them possible. I take no credit for any of that myself, and I
give all the glory unto Him. But we should realize that He has also ordained
that we stand and struggle and fight to accomplish His decreed will.
The world about us grows increasingly more evil and confusing
every day. We see Paul’s horrible descriptions found in Romans 1 being lived
out before us.
Romans 1:26-32
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did
change the natural use into that which is against nature: (27)
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned
in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly,
and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. (28)
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave
them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not
convenient; (29) Being filled with all unrighteousness,
fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder,
debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
(30) Backbiters, haters of God,
despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to
parents, (31) Without understanding, covenantbreakers,
without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: (32)
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are
worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Sometimes we struggle with how we might best stand against the
seemingly overwhelming onslaughts and how we might best fight back against the
depravity and perversity of our day.
We will not prevail by tilting at windmills and seeking to change
things that we cannot change. We will not prevail by swaying the mass, or by
voting, or by political action. And though our enemies force us to resort to
arms, we will not ultimately prevail by that.
We cannot prevail by fixing the mess. We can, however, undertake
to fix ourselves! We will only prevail by living our own lives in accordance
with God’s revealed will. Until we have put our hands to this task, nothing
else will really matter.
Our enemies attack from myriad directions, but we should recognize
that Satan’s primary assault is upon the God-ordained institutions of marriage
and the family.
So, fix yourself and your family, before you attempt to fix
anything else.
I shared some verses with our folks this past Sunday that I hope you
might find helpful.
Proverbs 5:18
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy
youth.
Ecclesiastes 9:9
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the
life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy
vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou
takest under the sun.
God determined that it was not good for man to be alone, and made
a help meet for him.
Genesis 2:18
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make
him an help meet for him.
And when the Lord brought Eve to Adam, Adam responded:
Genesis 2:23-24
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my
flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (24)
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave
unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Our Lord reiterated this truth during His earthly ministry:
Matthew 19:5-6
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he
which made them at the beginning made them male and female, (5) And said, For this cause shall a man leave
father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one
flesh? (6) Wherefore they are no more
twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put
asunder.
This is God’s way. God’s way is NOT fornication and adultery and sodomy
and all other manner of sexual depravity and confusion.
God’s way is one man and one woman for a lifetime with only death breaking
that bond.
Do you desire to be a warrior against the Satanic assaults that
surround? Then stablish yourself, love your wife, love your children, separate
from the insane sinfulness that surrounds, and live unto the Lord. Do not
condone or embrace or excuse the evil spirit of the day.
No, we cannot fix everyone and everything, but we can, by the Grace
of God, stand with Joshua in saying:
Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this
day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on
the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye
dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
It is my prayer that the Lord will allow my wife and I to serve Him
in whatever days remain to us. I pray that He may use us as an encouragement
and example to our kith and kin to do likewise.
